MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

We wonder if the CITOM plans to field some personnel at Sikatuna St., which is one of the areas where there are many traffic violations that seem to have gone unpunished.

In front of the Zapatera Elementary School jeepney drivers and some drivers of private vehicles overtake the long queue hoping to make it first to the corner of P. del Rosario.

There have been many times that we observed that these vehicles meet the traffic on the opposite lane and they are forced to cut into the queue.

If there are CITOM enforcers in the area, this can be minimized.

Further down the street, you have vehicles parked on NO STOPPING and NO PARKING zones including several near the police station at Parian.

When it rains, it is also wise to avoid this street as it often floods in one portion causing traffic jams.

The road in Canduman, Mandaue City is one of those that readers often complain about.

One reader said that she is forced to use the road as her daughter goes to SHS-J and she passes the road regularly.

“When it rains, there is a portion near the main gate of the school that gets flooded and the water takes not just hours, but days to subside,” she complained.

There are also those who complain about drivers, who stop at the corner where there is a surplus store to pick up passengers without regard for the long line of vehicles behind them.

The work on the road seems to have also been abandoned and some portions are muddy because the repair work was not completed.

“Maybe we’d need the president to visit the place again,” one reader suggested.

One reader asked for tips when driving during rain.

We told her that one of the few things we do when it is raining is to turn on the headlight of our vehicle. This doesn’t really help us see the road, but it helps other drivers see our vehicle.

We also told her to make sure she regularly check the wiper blades and mechanism as well as the washer tank.

The most important tip we believe is to just stay put when the weather is bad visibility is low. This shall save you the trouble of finding yourself submerged in flood waters or meeting an accident, because some drivers seem to still drive like crazy even when it’s raining.

With the prices of fuel once again going up, we should probably start looking at the other vendors aside from the big three.

We noticed that Caltex seems to have the most expensive diesel fuel compared to the others.

There are also new players that sell fuel cheaper like Phoenix and PTT.
