Call for Applications: Philippine Model Congress 2013

MANILA, Philippines - Following the success of the inaugural Philippine Model Congress last year, the Philippine Model Congerss Executive Board is pleased to announce that on July 27 and 28, the Philippine Senate will once again be opening its doors to 450 high school and college student leaders from throughout the country for the Philippine Model Congress 2013.

Philippine Model Congress (PMC) is a yearly, student-run legislative simulation conference that trains the country's future leaders and inspires them to enter public service. The conference provides a venue for student leaders with a strong sense of civic responsibility to engage in the legislative process by partaking in caucusing, debating, and bill-writing. Delegates will submit original bills and resolutions, give speeches in favor or against, and gather support amongst other delegates. Bills that are approved at the committee level will be presented to actual congressmen for their insights. Bills passed at the plenary level will be presented to the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives.

This year, PMC will run for two days, giving additional time to more transformational speakers, headlined by keynote speaker Sen. Bam Aquino. Additionally, delegates themselves will also be invited to recount their individual stories with other Filipino youths from around the country through the Share Your Story Sessions.

Modeled after conferences hosted by various international universities, Philippine Model Congress is a collaborative effort of Filipino college students. The conference is endorsed by the Philippine Senate, the Department of Education, the Commission on Higher Education, the National Youth Commission, and the SK National Executive Board.

Deadline of application is on July 7. Interested delegates may apply online at www.philippinemodelcongress.org. Interested partners may email lance@philippinemodelcongress.org. Registration is free.
