Tee for a cause

It was another winning moment for Manila Overseas Press Club (MOPC) chairman Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez during the third MOPC Scholarship Golf Tournament held at the Sta. Elena Golf Club in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. The play-offs saw avid lovers of the sport, among them, former president Fidel V. Ramos, US ambassador, Harry Thomas, Japanese ambassador, Toshinao Urabe, and Canadian consul general Steve Chapman, on the putting green. Participants vied in three categories with the following emerging as champions: Richard Salcedo (Class A), Solomon Ko (Class B), and Jose Rainer Reyes (Class C). For the Fun Holes, Solomon Ko bested everyone else to win the “Nearest to the Pin” category while Richard Salcedo won the “Longest Drive”. The charity golf is a yearly event to raise funds for the MOPC scholarship program for the orphaned children of journalists, as well as other projects. Kudos to Babe and the MOPC board of governors who made sure the event was as challenging as it was fun. Congratulations, too, to all the winners and runners-up!
