Analitika taps top execs into board of trustees

MANILA, Philippines -  Analitika, an aggrupation of Philippine industry leaders working towards becoming the global center for smarter analytics, has formally introduced its board of trustees.

They are: IBM Philippines country general manager Mariels Winhoffer as Analitika president; Manila Electric Corp. (Meralco) president and chief executive officer Oscar Reyes, vice president-external for government relations; Pilipinas Shell country president Edgar Chua, vice president-external for job role creations;  Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) president and chief executive officer Cesar Consing, vice president-external for skills and professional development; ABS-CBN officers Carlo Katigbak and Nandy Villar, co-vice president-external for promotions and awareness;  PLDT senior vice president Eric Alberto, vice president-external for membership and administration; SM Retail vice president Stephen Yap, secretary; and Sun Life Philippines president chief executive officer Riza Mantaring, treasurer.

The board of trustees will lead the consortium in defining, developing, enhancing, promoting, nurturing and sustaining analytics as an industry.

A social and professional organization of private, public and academic institutions and individuals who are interested in the science and practice of analytics, Analitika will define the new professions that will be required by the transformed industries and ensure the availability of the required talent.

Winhoffer said that the Philippines is the first in the world to nationally declare analytics as the next growth focus.

“As a country that will become home to topnotch global analytics talent, Philippine companies must be fully engaged in developing and leveraging this capability and opportunity that will help improve various fields and industries and endow upon them competitive advantage,” she added.

The global market for analytics is estimated to be in the neighborhood of $232 billion by 2015, with over 4.4 million high-value services jobs created, out of which only 30 percent could be filled up.

Analytics is defined as the scientific process of transforming data into insight for making better decisions.

It involves studying past historical data to research potential trends, to analyze the effects of certain decisions or events, or to evaluate the performance of a given tool or scenario.

The goal of analytics is to improve the business by gaining knowledge which can be used to make improvements or changes.
