International expo to focus on agri-tourism

MANILA, Philippines –  The country’s emerging agri-tourism industry takes center stage with the holding of the 1st International Agri-Tourism Expo on June 30 to July 2 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

The first of its kind in the Philippines, the expo aims to position the country as the Agri-Tourism capital of Asia.

A-Linx president and CEO Kenneth Dong, event organizer, said the expo will highlight agri-tourism, a niche sub-sector of the tourism industry.

He said that with the support of the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Tourism, the event will bring in important players in both the agriculture and tourism sectors.

With theme “Empowering the Economy through Agriculture and Tourism Growth,” the expo hopes to generate strong parti-cipation from agriculture-, nature- and environment-themed tourist establish-ments, suppliers of farm produce and technologies, and agriculture- and tourism-oriented establishments.

The fair will feature plantations, mariculture parks, realty firms engaged in farm villages, and specialty farms and resorts as new destinations for the world tourist market.

Dong said the expo also hopes to provide new agri-business ideas and create in-come opportunities in the countryside with the establish-ment of agri-tourism sites.

The 1st International Agri-Tourism Expo is supported by Asuki Weighing System Inc. and will be for the benefit of the Bukidnon Deer Park and Wildlife Center and the College of Agriculture Agri-Park.
