In a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed recently, Taguig City Mayor Fred Tinga and LLDA GM Casimiro Ynares III agreed to create a body corporate that will carry out their office’s mutual objective of developing the lakeshore area of Taguig City. The two agencies agreed to establish a joint venture corporation that will undertake related developmental activities. The shorelines of Laguna de Bay under the jurisdiction of Taguig are being eyed as a commercial hub and tourist destination.
Ynares said the agreement is "a timely resolution for an upset shore land within the Laguna de Bay Region, which for years has been wailing for development."
Ynares also signed an agreement with PEZA Director-General Lilia de Lima for a joint implementation of rules and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental policies and regulations.
Under the agreement, LLDA will assist PEZA in reviewing its rules and regulations specifically those relating to sewage works and industrial waste disposal systems of eco-zone developers and locators. In this regard, LLDA may conduct periodic inspections and issue orders to compel compliance with existing laws while the PEZA shall provide access to duly authorized LLDA personnel in the enforcement of laws, rules and regulations. PEZA shall coordinate with LLDA in the formulation and review of policies and guidelines affecting the programs and projects of eco-zone developers and locators.
Ynares said this will promote simplicity in the enforcement of environmental regulations, monitoring and periodic inspection especially in the industrial estates.
