‘VP Sara not violent, no intent to hurt others’

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment defense team yesterday clarified her “bloodbath” remark as spilling her own blood, with no intention to hurt others.
At yesterday’s press conference before the trial, defense team spokesman Michael Poa said there has been a lot of misinterpretation about her statement.
“What she meant was her own blood that would be spilled because she is the subject of this impeachment proceeding, and this was further clarified when she went here (Senate) last week, and said that the bloodbath was herself,” Poa said.
Proceedings at the Senate are currently tackling the fourth Article of Impeachment: Duterte’s alleged grave threat of hiring someone to kill President Marcos, First Lady Liza and former House speaker Martin Romualdez if she herself would be killed.
On July 7, Duterte told the media: “In this bloodbath and bludgeoning, I will be bloodied but unbowed.”
