Quiñahan to find way back to PBA?

MANILA, Philippines — Amid snowballing calls online for the PBA to give JR Quiñahan another chance after his heroic act in Cebu, the pro league maintained the door actually remains open for the 6-foot-4 bruiser.
Commissioner Willie Marcial clarified that there’s actually no standing ban in effect on the 41-year-old Quiñahan, who’s been out of the PBA for the last two years.
“Wala namang suspension,” Marcial said yesterday.
Quiñahan last played for NLEX until their relationship soured in the summer of 2023 after the veteran got involved in an unsanctioned game marred by a brawl in Cebu.
The PBA slapped Quiñahan a fine of P70,000 in total as an offshoot of the messy “ligang labas” stint, which went viral on social media.
Not long after, the Road Warriors announced they have “terminated his contract” due to violations of the Uniform Players’ Contract (UPC), making Quiñahan a “free agent.”
He spent the aftermath of that episode in other leagues.
Recently, Quiñahan made the rounds on socmed again as he helped rescue his fast food kiosk employees and neighbors during the flooding in Cebu caused by Typhoon Tino even as he lost most of his belongings.
He was hailed as a hero and netizens would like his humanitarian act to be rewarded with a smooth path back to the PBA.
