FOCAP presents Romeo Gacad Lecture Series on Visual Journalism

MANILA, Philippines — The Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines will hold the inaugural Romeo Gacad Lecture Series on Visual Journalism, on Thursday.

The global media landscape is currently undergoing rapid changes. New digital platforms have pushed the communication environment to become highly visual, but not without the persistent danger of fake news and misinformation in visuals and photographs.

With newsrooms and clients facing unprecedented financial constraints, the advent of social media, and now with artificial intelligence posing a huge threat to the integrity of factual images circulating worldwide, the forum aims to be a venue for us to discuss these issues with industry leaders.

The forum will take place at Lanson Place, Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Among the esteemed guests are Candida Ng, Agence France Presse deputy photo director for Asia Pacific; Vivek Prakash, Getty Images managing editor for Asia Pacific; Kim Kyung-Hoon, Reuters News Pictures senior staff photographer; and Aaron Favila, Associated Press Manila Bureau senior staff photographer. The forum will be moderated by Jes Aznar, also a long time photojournalist for Getty Images and The New York Times, and current FOCAP board member.

The three main talking points to be highlighted in the forum-lecture include the photojournalism industry’s current situation, past and present challenges, as well as a discussion on new paradigms on the practice and the industry’s future.
