MANILA, Philippines — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines on Monday placed the Luzon grid under yellow alert.

The yellow alert means the power reserves are below the minimum level set by the regulator. It does not, however, mean that low power reserve may lead to brownouts.

According to Meralco, the NGCP placed the Luzon grid under yellow alert from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and at 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“This [is] due to insufficient operating reserve,” Meralco said in its advisory.

The NGCP said there were also unexpected shutdowns and limited generation from a number of power plants.

Due to this, Meralco advised Luzon residents to conserve energy and prevent power outage by “being energy sufficient.”

Among the measures advised by the electric company are the following: preventing unnecessary use of the refrigerator, cleaning of electric fan blades and aircon vents and unplugging of appliances that are on standby or unused.
