AirAsia readies Osaka flights

MANILA, Philippines — Philippines AirAsia Inc. plans to start mounting flights  from Manila to Osaka, Japan in the second half.

“We secured some entitlements,” Philippines AirAsia chief executive officer Dexter Comendador told reporters.

He said the carrier is also considering launching flights to Osaka from Clark.

Comendador  said Philippines AirAsia also intends to fly to more international destinations, as well as increase services to domestic points particularly from Clark this year.

Among the international destinations being considered are South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore.

Philippines AirAsia wants to expand operations in Clark and make it a main hub for operations.

The move is in line with government’s efforts to position the airport as an alternative to the congested Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.

Apart from Clark, the airline plans to develop other hubs in the country such as Davao, Puerto Princesa in Palawan and Panglao in Bohol.

The New Bohol (Panglao) Airport is expected to be completed by June this year, while commercial operations will begin in August.

Philippines AirAsia has domestic and international flights from hubs in Manila, Cebu and Kalibo.
