PSA revives 4 fisheries surveys

MANILA, Philippines -  The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has renewed the conduct of four nationwide fisheries surveys that will provide information on the volume and value of fish unloaded in various landing centers, as well as those produced in aquaculture farms and households.

PSA’s Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SsrcS) cleared a P5.74 million budget to be used for the conduct of the following fisheries surveys: 2017 Quarterly Aquaculture Survey (QAqS), 2017 Quarterly Inland Fisheries Survey (QIFS), 2017 Quarterly Commercial Fisheries Survey (QCFS), and 2017 Quarterly Municipal Fisheries Survey (QMFS).

This amount will cover the preparatory activities, trainings of PSA technical staff, production of data, publication and dissemination.

The QAqS aims to generate accurate and timely information on the quarterly production, area and prices by aquafarm type and species. This survey will sample 6, 881 aquafarms in 81 provinces.

The QIFS will generate quarterly data on the per species volume and value of fish catch of inland fishing households. This survey will cover 1, 327 households engaged in inland fishing in 76 provinces.

The QCFS survey will be undertaken to generate information on quarterly volume and value of fish unloaded at commercial fish landing centers, also segregated by species. This survey will cover 277 sample commercial fish landing centers in 59 provinces.

The QMFS, meanwhile, will provide data on the quarterly volume and value of fish unloaded at municipal fish landing centers, also segregated by species. Thus will cover 850 sample municipal fish landing centers in 67 provinces including the National Capital Region (NCR).
