MANILA, Philippines - Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) plans to start the construction of the P35.43 billion Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) in the first quarter of next year.
Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) president and CEO Rodrigo Franco said the MPIC unit is set to start the construction of the expressway in the first quarter of 2017.
The CALAX project involves the financing, design and construction, operation and maintenance of the entire four-lane, 44.63-kilometer closed-system tolled expressway connecting Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway or CAVITEX and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).
The expressway will start from the CAVITEX in Kawit, Cavite and end at the SLEX-Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna.
It will likewise have interchanges in the following locations: Kawit, Daang Hari, Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, Silang, Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay, Laguna Blvd., Technopark, as well as have a toll barrier before SLEX.
Through the project, the aim is to provide a faster route between Bacoor and Kawit in Cavite, Laguna and the SLEX areas.
Construction of the CALAX is expected to be completed by 2020.
The government and MPIC have a cooperation period of 35 years for the project, including the design and construction.
Aside from the CALAX, MPIC is set to work on other road projects in the country such as the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) – SLEX connector road and the Cebu-Cordova Link.
At present, MPIC operates the NLEX, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and the CAVITEX.
