30 BPO firms post over P1-B revenues

Manila, Philippines -  At least 30 business process outsourcing (BPO) companies in the Philippines are generating over P1 billion to P17 billion in annual revenues, House Deputy Majority Leader Roman Romulo disclosed over the weekend.

 “The 30 firms are the faces of our BPO industry. They each directly employ anywhere from 5,000 to 25,000 mostly college-educated, fluent English-speaking and tech-savvy Filipino professionals,” Romulo said.

He said the five largest BPO firms by annual gross revenues are Accenture Inc. (P17.433 billion); Convergys Phils. Services Corp. (P11.901 billion); TeleTech Customer Care Management Phils. Inc. (P9.413 billion); JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A.-Philippine Global Service Center (P8.931 billion); and Stream International Global Services Phils. Inc. (P6.854 billion)

Rounding up the top 10 are Aegis PeopleSupport Inc. (P6.619 billion); Sykes Asia Inc. (P6.243 billion); Sitel Phils. Corp. (P5.913 billion); Telephilippines Inc. (P5.598 billion); and Telus International Phils. Inc. (P5.232 billion);

Deutsche Knowledge Services Pte. Ltd. (P5.172 billion); HSBC Electronic Data Processing Phils. Inc. (P4.680 billion); IBM Daksh Business Process Services Phils. Inc. (P4.178 billion); IBM Business Services Inc. (P3.976 billion); and Shell Shared Services Asia B.V. (P3.725 billion) comprise the 11th to 15th spots on the list.

They are followed by SPi CRM Inc. (P2.914 billion); APAC Customer Services Inc. (P2.566 billion); 24/7 Customer Phils. Inc. (P2.378 billion); Genpact Services LLC (P2.308 billion); IBM Solutions Delivery Inc. (P2.169 billion);

Completing the top 30 list are SPI Technologies Inc. (P2 billion); Lexmark Research & Development Corp. (P1.918 billion); ePLDT Inc. (P1.840 billion); Kgb Phils. Inc. (P1.807 billion); Advanced Contact Solutions Inc. (P1.715 billion); Chartis Technology & Operations Management Corp. Phils. (P1.427 billion); ePerformax Contact Centers Corp. (P1.367 billion); Synnex-Concentrix Corp.-Philippine Branch (P1.219 billion); Citigroup Business Process Solutions Pte. Ltd. (P1.159 billion); and Cyber City Teleservices Inc. (P1.136 billion).

The figures are based on 2010 revenues, as reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to Romulo.

Romulo is a key backer of the BPO sector and author of the proposed Data Privacy Act, which is expected to further drive outsourcing to Manila.

 “We have high hopes that once the bill is enacted, our labor-intensive and information technology-enabled BPO firms will be able to draw in more clients, and in the process, grow revenues and jobs at a faster pace,” Romulo said.

The bill is pending bicameral conference committee finishing touches before it is sent to Malacañang for President Aquino’s signature.

It mandates both public and private entities, such as a BPO company, to protect the integrity and confidentiality of any personal information collected from their clients, in compliance with international privacy standards.

Romulo expressed confidence that the BPO industry would be able to achieve its target to increase both earnings and jobs by 20 percent every year until 2016.

The industry is projected to produce $27 billion in revenues and fully engage some 1.3 million Filipino workers by 2016, based on a recently upgraded roadmap.

This year, the sector hopes to produce 126,000 new jobs and generate $2 billion in extra earnings, according to the Business Processing Association of the Philippines.

The industry posted $11 billion in revenues on a labor force of 638,000 in 2011.
