Felipe L. Gozon, chairman of the board, said Jimenez, who turns 68 years old on Dec. 6, 2000, has from time to time indicated to him his desire to retire.
"All of us have a lot to be thankful to Jimenez who has served the company as president and CEO since 1976. He has contributed the most in bringing GMA-7 where it is now – the most respected, credible and the best TV station in the country," Gozon said.
The GMA board appointed its chairman, Gozon, as acting president and CEO and Gilberto Duavit, Jr., as acting executive vice president and chief operating officer to take the place of Antonio D. Seva, former executive vice president, who has joined the government as Press undersecretary.
Gozon said all ongoing efforts and activities of GMA will continue including its plans to migrate to digital broadcasting, set up a formidable regional news network and further strengthen and reinforce the already strong corporate organization.
