Lapu-Lapu government workers tapped to help enforce health protocols
CEBU, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan is now tapping government employees to help apprehend/issue citation tickets against those not following the health standards and safety protocols in the city.
The mayor said the city is in need of more government workers to help law enforcement agencies and barangay tanods (village watchmen) implement the health protocols.
“Tanan government workers nga dili kayo importante ang buluhaton we will deploy them,” he said.
Chan said violators will not be put behind bars to avoid jail congestions, but citation tickets will be issued instead.
“If you are not wearing a facemask, no need dad-on ka sa detention cell. Hasol na kayo and puno na pud. We will only issue a citation (ticket),” Chan said a press conference.
Violators will be made to pay an administrative fine of P1,000 or render community service in lieu of paying the fine.
“I just want this to make it clear, we are not after sa kwarta nga ma-receive nato, kay kanang kwarta pwerte nang gamaya, mas dako ang magasto sa syudad kun sila magka COVID-19,” Chan said.
He urged the public to practice self-discipline by always wearing face masks and face shields and observing social distancing in public places to help reduce the number of COVID-19 cases. — KQD (FREEMAN)
