MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala’s first foray as a seeded tennister in Wimbledon kicks off this week.
The trailblazing Filipina tennister, ranked 32nd in the world, will try to make a deep run in the Grand Slam tournament.
Eala’s Wimbledon schedule
Eala, seeded 29th in the competition, will take on Renata Zarazua of Mexico on Tuesday, 8:50 p.m. (Manila time.)
Whoever wins will take on either Maya Joint or tennis legend Serena Williams in the second round.
Eala will likewise see action in the doubles’ division.
She is paired up with Nikola Bartunkova, whom the Filipina defeated in the final of the Birningham Open last month.
The two will open their doubles’ bracket against Jelena Ostapenko and Sofia Kenin on Thursday, although the exact time is yet to be determined.

According to the Wimbledon website, the matches could be watched on SPOTV Now, although a subscription may be needed.
Regardless of her finish in singles’ action, Eala is assured of at least P6.4 million, or 80,000 GBP.
Last year, the Filipina played in her first Wimbledon, but she fell in the first round against Barbora Krejcikova.
