MANILA, Philippines — Bring on the PBA Commissioner’s Cup playoffs.

With Barangay Ginebra and Magnolia beating their respective opponents at the close of the eliminations, the stage is set for the explosive matchups in the quarterfinals.

The Gin Kings grabbed the No. 2 seeding after finishing at 9-3 on the strength of a 93-86 victory over defending champion TNT before a 13,967-strong Mother’s Day crowd at the SM MOA Arena.

Coach Tim Cone’s wards thus set up a Last-8 encounter against No. 7 Phoenix (6-6) while sending the Tropang 5G (6-6) down to eighth at 6-6.

As a result of the closing setback, Bol Bol-bannered TNT drew top-seeded NLEX (10-2) in the next phase that rolls off Wednesday.

Magnolia’s 93-76 triumph over Meralco in the curtain-raiser gave the Hotshots No. 5 position at 7-5, leading to a quarters tiff with the No. 4 Bolts (8-4) themselves.

The twin results also lined up No. 3 Rain or Shine (9-3) in an explosive tussle versus No. 6 San Miguel Beer (7-5).

As incentives for finishing in the Top 4, the Road Warriors, the Gin Kings, the Elasto Painters and the Bolts would only need to win once against their respective quarters opponents to advance to the best-of-seven semis.
