Brown stuns Hoffman in 400 meter hurdles
CAPAS, Tarlac, Philippines — Robyn Brown achieved a golden breakthrough against fancied Paris Olympian Lauren Hoffman late Thursday, ruling the women’s 400-meter hurdles in the second day of the ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium here.
Running in cooler conditions after an early evening downpour, Brown broke away at the homestretch to beat Hoffman for the first time in three head-to-head clashes, clocking 57.39 seconds, in the meet backed by the ICTSI Foundation and CEL Logistics.
Her time was slightly faster than the 57.50 seconds when she won the gold medal in the Asian meet held in Bangkok, Thailand two years ago.
Still recovering from an left achilles heel injury, Hoffman settled for runner-up honors in 1:00.20 and Thai Anisa Wenuwamarak taking third (1:00.42) in the athletic showcase organized by the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Assocation.
