UFC star McGregor fined $150K for pre-bout fracas in Vegas

Associated Press

LAS VEGAS — UFC star Conor McGregor is being fined $150,000 by the Nevada Athletic Commission for a profanity-laced bottle-throwing fracas during a pre-fight news conference with rival Nate Diaz in August in Las Vegas.

The commission on Monday unanimously approved the penalty, representing 5 percent of the $3 million that McGregor was paid for his Aug. 20 win over Diaz in UFC 202.

Commissioner Pat Lundvall says half the fine and a portion of the 50 hours of community service that McGregor was ordered to perform can go toward producing an anti-bullying public service announcement.

The 28-year-old McGregor appeared by telephone conference call from Ireland, where he's training for UFC 205 in November in New York.

Diaz still faces possible commission discipline over the Aug. 17 melee.
