Talisay allowing SM to rehab bus stops

Iris Mariani B. Algabre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The resolution proposed by the representatives of SM Prime Holdings on improving existing waiting sheds found in some intersections in Talisay was approved by the Talisay City Council yesterday.

Proposed Resolution No 2016-19-02 was presented last May 24, 2016 and the city council decided that SM Prime Holdings should cooperate with Councilor Socrates Fernandez chairman of the Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure.

SM representative Sherlyn Codilla said that they will continue their service to their riding public by improving the existing waiting sheds used by the passengers.

“We identified bus stops that we are willing to improve, the first was located in Katar before Talisay City Hall beside the guard post, second was in Cansojong, another one in San Isidro unfortunately does not have any structure,” she said.

Codilla clarified that they will only rehabilitate the MyBus bus stops, but also said SM can build a waiting shed in San Isidro with the same measurements and dimensions of the existing waiting sheds if the council will approve.

The rehabilitation includes replacing the existing roofing, repainting, and the installation of signage as well as lighting to ensure the safety of passengers and promote the name of the MyBus transit.

The approved resolution states that SM shall be responsible for all the expenses for the beautification of the waiting sheds.

These improvements and new passengers waiting sheds shall be reviewed by the Department of Public Works and Highways for approval, the approved resolution reads.

“We did an affirmation and discussion from the DPWH as we are all aware of the restriction on any structure that will be built on the sidewalks for us to actually improve on the existing pedestrian stops that are located in each intersection,” Codilla added.

The resolution was adopted on the motion of Socrates Fernandez co-authored by councilors Antonio Bacaltos Jr., Doroteo Emit, Valeriano Ylanan, and Eduardo Gullas III as members. — (FREEMAN)
