Jordan to continue receiving Syrian refugees: minister

The Philippine Star

AMMAN (Xinhua) - Jordan will continue to receive Syrian refugees as it is planning to build a third refugee camp for them, the state-run Petra news agency reported Saturday, quoting Interior Minister Awad Khleifat.

Khleifat vowed that Jordan will continue providing all types of assistance to the Syrian refugees, but also reviewed challenges his country is facing in the fields of health, education and infrastructure, as the influx of refugees increases pressure on the Jordanian economy.

More than 392,000 Syrian refugees have fled to Jordan since the start of the unrest in Syria in early 2011, according to official figures.
