Juancho R. Gallarde - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio “Ipe” Remollo had announced he will triple the amount intended for the purchase of the Closed Circuit TVs to be installed in different parts of the city.

Remollo said the initial appropriation of P15 million is so small if it is going to maintain a reliable monitoring system, thus he wanted to raise the amount to P50 million, which will now include the construction of a control center for all the cameras to be installed throughout the Poblacion area and in the outskirts of the city.

He said funds can be taken from the savings, while making sure a yearly appropriaton of P20 million is included to also set up CCTV cameras in the barangays, including a free WIFI.

Meanwhile, Remollo had also instructed the city planning office and the city development council to allocate funds for the purchase of three brand new garbage compactors to augment ithe garbage collection of the city.

Recent data showed that, from 40 tons in previous months, the daily collection of garbage in Dumaguete had almost doubled to 80 tons, thus the need for more compactors, added the mayor. (FREEMAN)
