CEBU, Philippines - Two alleged robbers onboard a motorcycle were killed by Sogod police Tuesday afternoon after they reportedly opened fire at the cops at a checkpoint.

The fatalities were identified as Fil-am Camingawan, 35, and Richie Demy, 23, both residents of Sitio Humay-humay, Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.

Senior Inspector Danilo Santillan, chief of Sogod Police Station, said that before the incident, Camingawan and Demy robbed a delivery van driver.

The suspects allegedly robbed Chemuel Larede, 33, while he was on his way to deliver beer products in Barangay Bawo.

Around 2:45 p.m., Santillan said they received a call from a concerned citizen tipping them about the robbery in Barangay Bawo.

The police proceeded to the area and conducted a checkpoint to track down the suspects. Camingawan and Demy were later seen passing the checkpoint and were immediately flagged down by the police.

However, the two did not stop, prompting the police to chase them until they reached Barangay Laaw, Borbon.

The backrider allegedly pulled out his gun and fired at the responding police, prompting them to fire back and hit the suspects.

The two were then rushed to the Juan Dosado District Hospital, but were declared dead on arrival.

The police were able to recover from the possession of the suspects one .38 caliber revolver, one .357caliber revolver, two cellular phones, a mask, bonnets, black jackets, helmets, ball caps, P4,220 cash and the cellphone of Larede. (FREEMAN)
