Injured eagle rescued in Surigao
MANILA, Philippines — An injured Philippine Eagle has been rescued by residents in Tago, Surigao del Sur, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said over the weekend.
The raptor was found with a broken wing in Barangay Anahao on Dec. 10, according to Modesto Lagumbay, local environment and wildlife division chief.
Residents turned the eagle over to Barangay Chairman Aralito Enriquez, who informed Mayor Rogelio Pimentel about the incident.
Pimentel sought the help of the DENR, which sent personnel to collect the eagle.
The raptor was brought to the Philippine Eagle Center (PEC) in Davao City for treatment.
The raptor, believed to be two years old, will stay at the PEC until it fully recovers from its injury.
A bone in the bird’s left wing had to be cut in order to save its life, DENR-Caraga director Charlie Fabre said.
“The eagle must have been snared and struggled to free itself, injuring itself in the process,” the veterinarian who treated the bird said.
