Ex-vice mayor nabbed for guns
MANILA, Philippines — Guns and ammunition were allegedly recovered during a raid on the house of a former vice mayor of Kabugao town in Apayao on Thursday.
Roosevelt Alitan yielded a caliber .45 pistol, a shotgun and various types of ammunition, police said.
A court in Tabuk, Kalinga issued the search warrant.
In Maguindanao, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) yesterday filed charges for illegal possession of guns and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act against Vicky Sangikay, 47.
Four handguns, a 9mm pistol, a rifle, sachets of shabu with an estimated street value of P75,000 and more than P2 million in cash were seized when PDEA and police operatives swooped down on Sangikay’s hideout in Barangay Semba, Datu Odin Sinsuat on Wednesday, Juvenal Azurin, PDEA-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao director, said.
Sangikay is on the town’s list of 10 most wanted drug dealers.
In Abra, two sachets of shabu were allegedly recovered from an inmate at the provincial jail during a surprise inspection on Thursday.
Chief Inspector Carol Lacuata, Cordillera police spokesperson, said additional charges were filed against Jorly Borlaza who was detained for illegal drugs.
