Ex-Basilan village chief beheaded

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines —A former barangay captain was beheaded in Sumisip, Basilan on Sunday. 

The decapitated remains of Hadji Najir Bohong, 58, former chairman of Barangay Mahatalang, was recovered in Sitio Punu at about 11 a.m.  Authorities are still looking for his head.

Bohong failed to return home after he left his house to gather firewood on Saturday.

Police said the Abu Sayyaf could be involved in Bohong’s beheading. Abu Sayyaf bandits warned village leaders in Basilan against helping the police and military in their operations.
