Fil-Am shot dead by fellow taxi passenger

The suspect, believed to be 30 to 35 years of age, immediately got off the vehicle after shooting the victim twice then boarded a parked van which sped off.

A 63-year-old Filipino-American in Valenzuela City was shot dead last Wednesday by an unidentified man while they were both riding the same taxi.

Antonio Fermo first met with the suspect at his house in Barangay Marulas at 2 p.m., supposedly to discuss renting the victim’s house, police said.

Two hours later, the two boarded a taxi driven by Ferdenand Marcon who picked them up at the victim’s residence.

Fermo was suddenly shot by the suspect in the cab when they reached McArthur Highway in Barangay Dalandanan.

After shooting the victim, the suspect got out and rode a white van parked nearby, which sped off to Barangay Malanday, police said.

Senior Police Officer 2 Felix Viernes, case investigator, said police are looking for the suspect, described to be between 30 and 35 years of age.

The two must have gone out so the suspect could make an advance payment on the rent, Viernes said.

Police recovered two bullet casings and a slug from the vehicle. The bullets went through Fermo’s abdomen and his right cheek.

Police are still investigating the taxi driver's involvement and the motive for the killing, Viernes said.
