New LPA seen as Nando exits Phl

Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical depression Nando left the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday, but a trough or extension of a new low-pressure area will bring rains in the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the low-pressure area (LPA)was spotted 510 kilometers east-southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

The weather system is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone, the agency said.

Moderate to occasional heavy rains and strong winds will prevail over the Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao, and Eastern and Central Visayas regions.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience occasional lightning, strong winds and heavy rains due to localized thunderstorms.

The LPA was also forecast to cross the Visayas and bring cloudy skies with scattered light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms over Southern Tagalog, the Visayas and eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon by midweek.

Nando, which developed from an LPA, dumped rains in the western section of Luzon, including Metro Manila, over the weekend.

Nando was the fourth tropical cyclone to enter the country this month.
