Gunmen abduct Zamboanga del Norte mayor's son

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Unidentified gunmen abducted a businessman, the son of a town mayor, Wednesday night in Labason town, Zamboanga del Norte, police said.
Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 9, identified the abducted businessman as Jelster Ed Tiu Quimbo, 28, son of Labason town Mayor Eddie Quimbo.
Galvez said Quimbo was seized about 6:45 p.m. in the town proper by six unidentified gunmen and taken away in a red van. The van was headed in the direction of Gutalac, an adjacent municipality.
She said police and military personnel recovered the getaway van 10 minutes later at Barangay Usukan in Gutalac, a seaside town.
Security forces believe the gunmen fled with their captive by sea.
Galvez said Labason police and troops from the 42nd Infantry Battalion are looking for Quimbo and will try to rescue him.
Police Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, regional police director, alerted all the government forces in the Zamboanga Peninsula and is coordinating with units in neighboring provinces.
Beltran also established a hotline and appealed for public support to in the search.
