5.1 magnitude quake jolts Leyte
MANILA, Philippines — A 5.1 magnitude quake shook Leyte early morning Wednesday as state seismologists warned of aftershocks.
The quake, which occurred at 6:26 a.m., was detected east of Albuera, Leyte. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said damage is not expected.
Ormoc City recorded the strongest instrumental intensity at Intensity 6 or "very strong." At this intensity, heavy furniture may move and small church bells may ring. Very old or poorly built houses and man-made structures could get slight damage.
Pastrana, Leyte reported a moderately strong quake while weak shaking was felt in Tacloban City and Palo, Leyte.
Early July, a magnitude 6.5 earthquake also struck Leyte with over 500 aftershocks recorded just within three days since it hit.
