Coast Guard files raps vs alleged hacker who stole from Bill Gates
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — The Philippines Coast Guard filed charges against a Bulgarian national suspected to be the hacker of billionaire Bill Gates' bank accounts, who was intercepted in the local port here early this week, according to official.
Capt. Ronnie Gavan, PCG Southwestern district commander, said they have filed charges for falsification of public documents and possession of illegal drugs against 32-year-old Konstantin Simeonov Kavrakov.
Kavrakov was intercepted aboard a passenger ferry at the local port here Wednesday that was scheduled to depart for Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.
Gavan said Kavrakov presented no legal travel document except for an affidavit claiming that he lost his travel documents in Pampanga last April.
But Gavan said the suspect had been transferring places from General Santos City to Davao City before he was intercepted by the Coast Guard implementing the “No ID, No entry” policy as part of the security measures following the declaration of martial law in Mindanao.
Gavan said his personnel recovered from the suspect several pieces of swipe cards and paraphernalia for hacking.
“I believed we have enough evidence to pin down the subject,” Gavan said.
“Matindi ang taong ito. He is not an ordinary guy as he is part of a syndicate,” Gavan said.
He said Kavrakov has also a pending warrant of arrest issued by the International Police for illegal drugs and hacking of bank accounts.
According to Gavan, Kavrakov was reportedly involved in hacking Bill Gates' bank accounts in 2011.
“But these are just reports. We are still doing the further investigation. But he possesses paraphernalia relevant to hacking,” he added.
Gavan said Kavrakov was arrested previously in Quezon City for electronic fraud-related case but managed to post bail.
