1 dead, 1 hurt in grenade blast

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – A woman was killed while another was critically wounded when a rifle grenade accidentally exploded in Barangay San Isidro, Iriga, Camarines Sur on Friday.

Chief Inspector Malou Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, identified the fatality as house helper Marites Capena, 36. Roy Tino, 48, the owner of the house, remained confined at the Bicol Medical Center.

Initial investigation showed the rifle grenade, which Tino brought home, exploded when he tinkered with it. The family had just finished dinner when the accident occurred.

Calubaquib said they are investigating where Tino got the grenade.
