MANILA, Philippines - The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) has expressed full  support for the declaration of martial law in Mindanao.

Don Abalon, mayor of San Roque, Northern Samar and LMP spokesman, said they condemn the attack of Maute militants in Marawi that resulted in the deaths of civilians and destruction of government facilities.

“We share President Duterte’s resolve to protect and  defend the people and stop terrorist acts and all forms of lawlessness to ensure peace and development for our country and people. It is in this common objective that we declare our full and unequivocal support to the President and his declaration of martial law,” the LMP said in a statement.

Brondial  also called on the public  to support the government in its campaign for law and order.

The LMP is an organization of 1,489 town mayors.
