48 teams sa FIFA World Cup sa 2026
MANILA, Philippines – Maluwag na tinanggap ni Philippine Football Federation president Nonong Araneta ang desisyon ng International Football Federation na gawing 48-team competition ang FIFA World Cup simula sa taong 2026.
Ayon kay Araneta, suportado niya ang FIFA ukol sa nasabing pagdaragdag ng mga koponan.
“It’s a welcome development,” wika kahapon ni Araneta. “We fully support the 48-team format.”
Ang expansion ay nangangahulugan ng mas maraming puwesto para sa Asia sa pinakamalaking football event sa mundo.
Magkakaroon din ang Philippine Azkals ng maraming tsansa para makalaro sa FIFA World Cup.
“It’s still a big hurdle for our team but since there will be additional slots for Asia, we’ll have more chances to vie for a berth,” ani Araneta.
Sa kasalukuyang 32-team format ng World Cup, apat na tiket ang ibinibigay ng FIFA para sa Asya.
“We believe that Asia, as the biggest continent deserves more slots compared with the current quota, looking at the economic power it has, and the popularity for the game in Asia,” wika ni Araneta.
