LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – The Albay provincial police office and the Army’s 83rd Infantry Battalion will put up detachments in Libon town in a bid to end killings of innocent civilians.

Senior Inspector Arthur Gomez, Albay police information officer, said the detachments would be set up in Barangay Molosbolos and nearby villages where a gang allegedly led by a certain Gilbert Concepcion operates.

“The Concepcion gang has been terrorizing villagers it suspects to be tipping off the police about its members’ whereabouts,” Gomez said.

He said the decision to put up the detachments was made during a recent meeting of the peace and order council led by Libon Mayor Das Maronilla.

Gomez said the gang has at least 80 members, mostly former Army soldiers and militiamen.

The gang’s recent victim was 25-year-old Lorivie Marano, who was shot dead on Wednesday night in Barangay Libtong.

Marano’s partner Crisaldo Secopito was wounded in the attack.
