2 dead in Negros NPA attack
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Two farmers were killed and two others wounded when suspected New People’s Army rebels attacked a remote village in Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Sunday.
Police identified the fatalities as Dionesio Ebañez, 44, and Jose Pios, 51, residents of Barangay General Luna.
Militiaman Sonny Respondo and farmer Jodito Lutrago were wounded.
Chief Inspector Eduardo Corpuz, Sagay City police chief, said around 50 rebels burned the bunkhouses of the victims at around 5:30 a.m..
Bullet shells for M16, M14 and AK-47 rifles and a fragmentation grenade were recovered at the scene.
