4 detainees bolt cell at Zamboanga City central police station

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - Four detainees, most of whom are suspected thieves, bolted their detention cell at the central police station in the downtown district of this city.

City Police Office director Police Superintendent Luisito Magnaye said one of the escapees, identified only as "Den-Den", was recaptured by police.

He said the four escapees bolted their cell past 5 a.m. while the city was under general alarm because of a fire a few blocks away from the central police station.

Magnaye said the escapees bolted their cell by cutting through one of the bars using a hacksaw blade. They reportedly passed through the main lobby of the station without being noticed by police personnel on duty.

The city police chief has ordered officers on duty at the time investigated.

He said police are also tracking down the three escapees still at large. All the police stations in the city are on alert and are working to find the fugitives.
