Military diver goes missing in Davao del Norte training exercise

MANILA, Philippines - A military diver went missing on Saturday while participating in a diving drill in Talikud Island in Davao del Norte.
 
The soldier, whose identity was withheld, was reported missing at about 8:30 a.m., Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) spokesman Maj. Ezra Balagtey said.
 
The soldier is a participant in the joint proficiency diving exercise organized by Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao, Eastmincom and the Naval Special Operations Unit.
 
Teams from the Coast Guard, the Naval Special Operations Unit and Naval Forces Eastern Mindnaao have been dispatched to conduct a water search.
 
A team from the Philippine Air Force Search and Rescue Group was also tasked to do an aerial search along the shorelines of Talikud and the Davao del Sur area.
 
“The Incident Management Team of the Eastern Mindanao Command was activated to oversee the search and rescue (efforts),” Balagtey said. – Alexis Romero
