P522-M fake goods seized in Pasay

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs recently seized nearly P522 million worth of imitation apparel and accessories from a warehouse in Pasay City.

In a statement issued yesterday, the BOC said the goods, which came from China, were discovered in 10 storage units of Warehouse 142 on Cuneta Avenue last Thursday.

BOC Intelligence Group deputy commissioner Ricardo Quinto said they raided the warehouse after receiving a tip.

Carrying with them a letter of authority issued by Commissioner Isidro Lapeña, the BOC agents and Pasay police proceeded to the site.

Only the warehouse administrator, Lita Liao, was present during the raid. She said the units were leased to three individuals who were not on the premises at the time of the raid.

The unit owners, once their identities have been established, would be charged with violating the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to the Intellectual Property Code.
