Teen killed while protecting friend

MANILA, Philippines — A teenager was shot dead as he was trying to prevent neighborhood toughies from beating up his friend  in Barangay Upper Bicutan, Taguig City over the weekend, police said yesterday.

Cris Guzman, 18, was with Patrick Ercillas when they passed by a group of men drinking on the sidewalk after midnight on Saturday.

The men tried to compel Ercillas to join them, but he declined the offer. This angered the men, who started attacking Ercillas.

Guzman intervened, but one of the men shot him in the head.

The shooting was caught by a surveillance camera.
