MANILA, Philippines -  A former lawyer of the Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC) was arrested in Manila over the weekend in connection with the killing of his wife just before Christmas 15 years ago.

John Fabico was apprehended along Kapitan Tikong street in Malate by police officers from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group’s Detection Special Operations Unit at around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 27.

He was transferred to the Manila City Jail after the police returned the arrest warrant to the court.

Manila Judge Amor Reyes of Regional Trial Court Branch 21 issued the warrant against Fabico for parricide for the killing of his wife, Edith, on Dec. 23, 2002.

The Bureau of Immigration issued a hold departure order against Fabico on March 18, 2005.

Edith’s body, which bore two gunshot wounds, was found in the bathroom of the couple’s bedroom.

Fabico initially claimed his wife committed suicide but investigation by the police proved otherwise. He later accused one of their housemaids of shooting his wife.

Other occupants of the house claimed they heard what they initially thought were firecrackers outside the house since it was two days before Christmas Day.
