Bomb scares hit Quiapo, QC

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - An abandoned car and a mobile phone in a box caused bomb scares in Quiapo, Manila and Quezon City over the past two days.

Police officers checked on a black Toyota Vios with conduction sticker VG-7323 at Yunitrade Residences’ parking area along Bilibid Viejo street at past noon yesterday after residents reported that it had been left there two days ago.

Bomb experts found no bomb in the abandoned car but recovered a black bag containing clothes, personal items and a tooter.

Investigators will review footage from surveillance cameras in the area to find out who left the car.

Almost a month before, Quiapo was rocked by three bombings that left two people dead and 19 others, including two police officers, wounded.

Meanwhile, the bomb scare at Dominion bus terminal in Quezon City happened at around 7:30 p.m. when a courier heard a vibrating sound from a package that came from La Union province. She alerted a policeman stationed at the terminal.

As the package was about to be inspected, a man arrived and claimed ownership of the item. Instead of a bomb, police found a mobile phone inside the box.

The package was turned over to the man after he showed proof of ownership.
