‘Hotel manager’ steals from guest

MANILA, Philippines - A 29-year-old woman was arrested after posing as the manager of a hotel in Ermita, Manila and stealing from a Japanese guest yesterday morning.

Shaine Mejia was caught as she was walking out of the City Garden Hotel after Keisuke Shiba alerted hotel security personnel and the real manager.

Shiba told police Mejia knocked on the door of his room at around 7:30 a.m., gave him a newspaper, and introduced herself as the hotel manager before telling him he has to pay his bill.

He said Mejia even used the telephone inside his room to call the front desk. Together, they went to the front desk where he gave her his key and P8,100 to pay for his room.

When Shiba went to his room after having breakfast, he found his mobile phone and P30,000 were missing.
