5 PDEA tipsters get P3.6-M reward

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) yesterday gave more than P3.6 million to five informants.

PDEA’s Operation Private Eye (OPE) Rewards Committee earlier approved a resolution granting monetary rewards to informants identified through their codenames Alex, Joel, Ice Crasher, Silent Operator Matanglawin and Chad.

Outgoing PDEA director-general Arturo Cacdac said the OPE reward and incentive scheme encourages the participation of private citizens in the fight against illegal drugs.

“With the increasing numbers of them coming out in the open to report illegal drug activities, soon we will have a vast network of eyes and ears in our communities,” he added.

Alex received P2 million for information that led to the seizure of 31.5 kilos of shabu and the arrest of one suspect in a sting in Pasay City on March 22.

Joel was given P753,739 for information that led to a drug bust at a hotel in Pasay City, also on March 22. Three suspects and 9.8 kilos of shabu were confiscated.

Ice Crasher received P54,057.64 for a tip that led to the arrest of one suspect and the confiscation of 9.6 kilos of shabu in Barangay Greenhills, San Juan on March 31.

Silent Operator Matanglawin got P288,000 for a tip that led to the seizure of 5.1 kilos of shabu and the arrest of three suspects in a sting in Magallanes Village, Makati City on March 9.

Chad was awarded P92,283 for information that resulted in the confiscation of 61.5 kilos of marijuana and the arrest of three drug suspects in San Fernando, Pampanga on March 3.
