LTFRB wants more women public transport drivers

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - There should be more women driving public transport vehicles because they drive more carefully compared to male drivers, a Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) official said yesterday.

“I believe it’s about time to expand the pool of qualified drivers in public transportation by encouraging more women drivers to show their skills in driving public transport,” board member Ariel Inton said.

He said commuters feel more comfortable seeing women driving public utility vehicles and operators are satisfied with their performance.

Inton said that women drivers are more satisfied with a fixed income scheme while male drivers are often reported for driving recklessly to meet their quota for the day in a boundary scheme.

He said only a few transport firms have employed women drivers, citing that Jam Liner took on seven women bus drivers while Iloilo-based taxi firm Light of Glory has a woman driver.
