School service driver nabbed for student’s rape

MANILA, Philippines - A 46-year-old driver, whose tricycle was used as a school shuttle vehicle, was arrested for allegedly raping one of his passengers, an eight-year-old student, in Quezon City on Tuesday.

Lamberto Santiago was arrested a few hours after the girl’s mother went to the police to report the assault, which reportedly occurred at around 2:20 p.m.

Police said Santiago picked up the girl from school then passed by his house to get a piece of tarpaulin to shield the tricycle’s cab from the rain.

Santiago reportedly asked the girl to sit in front of him as he drove the tricycle toward the girl’s house.

Police said Santiago suddenly stopped the tricycle before they reached the girl’s house and raped the girl.
