DPWH warns: Heavy traffic near NAIA

MANILA, Philippines - Travelers who have flights today should go to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) earlier than usual and be prepared to take alternate routes, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said yesterday.

Starting today, contractor DMCI will hold test pitting activities from Piers 1 to 18 to connect the P15.86-billion NAIA Expressway Phase II project with the existing Phase I.

The DPWH said that based on the timeline given by DMCI, the traffic gridlocks will last until July 15 and affect motorists going to and from NAIA Terminal 3.

Motorists could use 10th and 14th streets in Pasay City when going to Sales Interchange from Andrews Avenue, the DPWH said.

The NAIA Expressway, a public-private partnership project, is a four-lane 7.15-kilometer elevated expressway that aims to provide easy access to and from the three NAIA terminals and link the Skyway and the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (Cavitex).

The project would also interconnect the South Luzon Expressway-Skyway to the Cavitex, Macapagal Boulevard and the Entertainment City of state-run Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
