Lawmaker seeks permission to attend peace talks in Rome
MANILA, Philippines – Tawi-Tawi lone district Rep. Ruby Sahali-Tan, who is facing criminal charges over her alleged failure to file her statement of assets, liabilities and net worth, has asked the Sandiganbayan to allow her to go to Rome to attend the resumption of peace negotiations with communist rebels.
In a four-page motion filed on Jan. 6 and released yesterday, Tan said she was invited by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process as a member of the House committee on peace, reconciliation and unity.
The peace talks will be held from Jan. 18 to 25.
Tan said she would stay at the Holiday Inn Rome until Jan. 24 and leave for Manila on Jan. 25. She is expected to be back in the country at around 8:35 a.m. on Jan. 27.
“She will religiously comply with the terms and conditions of the permit to travel… including reportorial requirements on the availment of the permit...within the period specified,” Tan’s motion read.
