Miss Universe in the country

VERBAL VARIETY - Annie Fe Perez - The Freeman

Today, some of the candidates of the Miss Universe scouted the regions to find the best places to go with the hope of promoting our destinations to their own countries. In Central Visayas, three of them visited Bohol –they were Miss Philippines, Malaysia, and Russia. It was a quick visit, probably the quickest I could have ever imagined. The moment they landed, they made their way to the Governor's mansion where they were met by the province officials. Then it was off to the Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella. In an instant they were whisked to their vehicles passing by the famous Baclayon Church and into the beaches of Panglao.

Although it was a privilege for the province to have the Miss Universe candidates in their land, the question that puzzled many was why there were only three of them? And the following question was, why not at the iconic places in Bohol such as the Chocolate Hills? You may be wondering why as well. The day tour package of Bohol which includes the Loboc River cruise, a swing by the manmade forest and a climb up the observatory of the chocolate hills would have been perfect. It would have highlighted what the province is really known for but instead they took a different route away from the many people and tourists that may see the candidates.

Was it a decoy or a plan to protect them? Probably so. The police in Region 7 have denied that there is an imminent threat to the provinces although they have been in place not discounting that there could be a possible incident in the area. We could also think of it as a way for them to just go by the places that only required a short time to visit considering that they only had hours to spend in the provinces. Time flies so fast like that. Nonetheless, we are thankful that out of the many countries around the world, the Miss Universe Organization has chosen to visit the Philippines first. It is something to be proud of.

We only hope that in the next instances like this, we can prepare something grand for our guests. We can always persuade them to spend more time so they can see more. After all, isn't it more fun in the Philippines? They could have seen beyond what pictures could offer and experience the different culture that we have. Then they can tell the world what we are really made of.

The concept is to get them to boost our country through social media. We do not want a bad review in our faces. The exposure that we get globally will affect our tourism greatly. I must say, it needs our best foot forward.
